Srinivasa Ramanujam

lived from 1887 to 1920
Ramanujan was one of India's greatest mathematical geniuses.
He made substantial contributions to the analytical theory of numbers
and worked on elliptic functions, continued fractions, and infinite series.

The University of Madras did give Ramanujan a scholarship.
In 1914 Ramanujan went to Trinity College, Cambridge.
